Safety
Every parent wants absolute peace of mind when it comes to the safety of their child. Ensuring our products are safe and appropriate for babies lies at the heart of our product development. We meet and even often exceed government regulations on ingredient and product safety. From laboratory to market, we follow proven scientific methods and work with third-party experts to assess the ingredients used in our products. These ingredients are kept to a minimum, limited to those required to deliver the desired benefits. Our criteria in choosing suppliers are equally rigorous. We work only with those who can meet precise standards and principles.
Mildness
All JOHNSON’S® baby products that bear the CLINICALLY PROVEN MILDNESS® seal have passed the rigorous qualification tests for safety and mildness, which supports their claim of protection from skin irritation. Having pioneered research into the unique nature of infant skin, JOHNSON’S® baby understands the need to create products that are not only safe and appropriate for babies, but are also mild enough to promote healthy skin function and development by respecting the skin barrier. Each individual ingredient is evaluated, and when the ingredients are combined in products, the combinations undergo robust safety assessments. If they pass, they go through clinical testing to evaluate parameters like dermal irritation and dermal sensitization. Product efficacy and tolerance are confirmed through further assessments, before a comprehensive clinical review of all findings is undertaken. Only when we are completely satisfied with the results of these evaluations is the product awarded with the CLINICALLY PROVEN MILDNESS™ trademark.
Efficacy
Infant skin is very different in that it is functionally still developing. It may be more hydrated, but it also loses water at a faster rate. For JOHNSON’S® baby, being able to retain the natural moisture of baby skin is a critical attribute of our products. Clinical studies have shown that our products can provide greater moisturization compared with competitors or water alone, while still being as gentle and mild as pure water. Responding to Your Needs
Recently, we completed a global reformulationof JOHNSON’S® products to remove certain ingredients based on your preferences. Designed with the same high safety and quality standards, these reformulated products have been rolling out, and will continue to do so over the coming months.
Specifically, we removed formaldehyde-releasing preservatives and reduced traces of 1,4-dioxane. For most of our new and improved baby products, we have also removed parabens ahead of our2015 commitment as part of our promise to you.

Our Unique Story
The story of JOHNSON ’S® baby products began in the 1890s, when some patients who used Johnson & Johnson medicated plasters complained to the company that some of the plasters irritated their skin. Scientific Director Fred Kilmer sent them small containers of Italian talc to soothe the irritation. These patients discovered that the talc also helped alleviate diaper rash, and they told the company. As a result, JOHNSON’S® baby powder made its debut in 1894, and the JOHNSON’S® baby brand was born.
