Behind the Label

Each of our ingredients is included for a specific purpose, and we carefully select those which are best for your baby. See below for a breakdown of the ingredients in JOHNSON'S® baby TOP-TO-TOE® Wash, JOHNSON'S® baby Shampoo and JOHNSON'S® baby Lotion.

What’s Changed

We know moms and dads are interested in our ingredients, and we can assure you we're always working to keep up our high standards. Here's a rundown of how we've changed our use of particular ingredients in our new formulations.

This type of preservative releases a very small amount of methylene glycol, the same type of formaldehyde found naturally in fruits and vegetables.  In fact a person’s exposure to formaldehyde in an apple is greater than 15 bottles of baby shampoo.

Regardless, we have removed this ingredient from our products and replaced it with an alternative preservative system

1,4-Dioxane is a byproduct of a process that makes our cleansers non-irritating. It may sound like a strange chemical compound, but actually it also occurs naturally in tomatoes and coffee.

Our formulations have the lowest measurable level of 1,4-dioxane.

Parabens are preservatives, which ensure that dangerous bacteria doesn't have the chance to grow. However, they also occur naturally in mangoes, blueberries and honey.

Although they are not harmful, we've found a way to remove them from our reformulated products, and replaced them with alternative preservatives.

We're working on removing parabens from ALL of our products by the end of 2015. To see our progress, click here.

There are many types of phthalates, but low-weight phthalates are commonly used in personal care products. These phthalates have a very strong safety record. Regardless, in order to ensure peace of mind, all our baby products worldwide are now phthalate free.

Our first priority is doing what is best for babies. If there is a particular ingredient you have a question about, please contact us and we’ll respond to your specific query.
